Giving Back: New Project for Consignment Sales

Guest Post by Martha Montiel-Lewis
Consignment is a booming trend in the United States. In theory it is a win-win situation for everyone involved. Mothers get to sell their gently used children and maternity items while others are able to buy items at a fraction of retail price. Local communities also benefit by receiving some of the items that do not sell during the sale. But, WHAT IF we took this amazing concept of consignment and made a difference globally? That is exactly what we are trying to do with the DAR Project.

What’s in a name?
Why the Dar Project? “Dar” means “to give” in Spanish, and at its core, that is exactly what this project is about – giving.

Our Mission

The DAR Project partners with consignment sales around the country to collect children and women’s maternity items for distribution to low income communities both domestically and abroad. Additionally, with the donations, DAR helps teach communities in countries abroad “to fish” by empowering locals to start their own small resale business as a way to provide income for their families and their communities.

What We Need

As you can imagine we have our work cut out for us. Shipping is NOT cheap and we need your continued support to make what we do possible; that is to give out some of the most important human needs for a child - clothing and toys. We are trying to raise $7,000 to fund our first trip to Central America and give HOPE to these children and women. Please consider helping us make our mission possible by contributing a small monetary donation.

Help make DAR Project possible!
