Consignment Sale Advice

Guest Post: Best Toys to Buy at a Kids Consignment Sale from Baby Cheapskate

Guest Post by Angela Wynne, author of The Baby Cheapskate Guide to Bargains

It doesn't take a novice consignment shopper long to figure out that you can score some fabulous deals on toys at consignment sales.

Stocking the playroom with gently used toys from consignment sales is a no-brainer for any budget-conscious parent, but knowing which toys get you the most play for your buck is a different story given that there are so many to choose from.

For the past several years at BabyCheapskate.com, I've polled hundreds of parents to see which toys keep their kids' interest the longest. I compiled the answers I got into age-based "Toys that Get Played With" lists that have proven really popular. This year I noticed that several of the toys show up on list after list, indicating that kids play with them not just for a few months or a year, but for YEARS.  ...Read More!!!

How to Predict Your Child's Clothing Sizes for 'Next Season'

Until we can figure out how to STOP THESE KIDS FROM GROWING, we'll have to do our best to predict our children's height & weight changes from season to season. I can remember Jack's first toddler winter. The poor guy had capris & belly shirts by the end of the 7-month "cold weather" season.  Major mommy fail!  .... Mostly because I had to go and pay {gasp!} RETAIL.

If you need some help predicting your child's height and weight changes from season to season, here are two processes to help.

7 Reasons to Ditch Garage Sales for Consignment Events

Guest Post by Angela Davis of FrugalLivingNW.com

I used to be an avid garage saler. I'd strap the kids into the minivan and we'd get our bargain on almost every weekend. I scored  tons of super cheap, high quality clothes over two or three summers. I thought I had mastered this whole "dressing your kids for pennies" thing.

This worked well until I had my third child and I realized that my first two were really fake children -- they stayed with me, didn't mind the car and were all-around obedient. Don't get me wrong, they could probably win a whining contest, but they were very tote-able. My third is what I call my "party-in-a-box" and driving around all morning just didn't work for him, so I had to quickly change my clothes-buying strategy (don't even get me started on the fourth...). ...Read More!!!

Five Simple DIY Busy Box Themes

GUEST POST: As the mother of a two year old, I don’t know what I would do without busy boxes. Being a super-thrifty mom, I refuse to spend oodles of money on my busy box contents, so I often seek out box contents at places like local consignment shops and sales. It is amazing what deals you can find! ...Read More!!!
