#1 – Tag the Big Stuff First
Many mamas get started with clothes, but we suggest going for your baby gear, outdoor equipment and big toys first. These high-demand items are the FIRST to go at a kids consignment event. Plus, most gear & equipment categories can be resold for 30-40% of their retail value, so there’s GREAT money-making potential!
#2 – Sort clothes by price before you tag
I hang & prep ALL of my clothing items, then sort them into price piles ($2 pile, $3 pile, $4 pile) before I start the tagging process. This helps me:
- Make sure I’m being accurate with pricing.
- Sorts my items into a priority system.
I always tag my most expensive piles first and if I run out of time, I can skip the $2 items instead of missing some great $10-15 prospects buried in the pile!
#3 – Don’t Forget Books, Games & Toys
I have a friend who consistently makes $300-400 each season and she swears the biggest chunk of her check is in books, games and toys. If your kiddos are like mine, consignment shopping, birthdays and Christmas have left you overrun with “forgotten” toys that rarely get attention. Be brutal in your toy filtering and sell anything they haven’t touched in the last 6 months!
