Tipsy Tuesday Recap: YOUR Best PRICING Tips

Every Tuesday, we poll our ConsignmentMommies on Facebook for their “best” consignment sale tips!  Each week, we’ll share the best ideas here on our blog!

This Week’s topic generated some great advice & words of wisdom from seasoned sellers!!

DON’T BE ATTACHED

Lose your sentimental attachment to items and think SELL, SELL, SELL!!!  ~ Lisa

PEER PRICING

{Chrissy’s Note: LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS!}  I am having a TAGGING Party this sale! Several friends and neighbors consign at the same sale—we might as well watch a good movie, eat great food and fellowship. Plus instant feedback…..”HOW MUCH WOULD YOU PAY FOR THESE SHOES?? SHIRT?? etc. etc. ~ Liz

I price with a friend. They don’t have emotional attachments to the stuff and can help you set more reasonable prices. ~ Louise

1/4 – 1/3 RETAIL

about 1/4th retail unless it’s new WITH tags then I price it at about 1/3… As for clothes: Usually $1 per outfit per size (ie size 6 outfit = $6). I always donate my infant clothes… usually not worth my time to sell them 😉 ~ Steph

REMEMBER WHAT 1/4 – 1/3 RETAIL MEANS

Remember that many chain stores have seasonal sales that are 50-70% off already. Don’t over price anything used when someone can buy it new for the same or less. If it’s an expensive item and you want a specific price sell it on Ebay. It’s not good for shopper or consignor to have a $20 item next to the $5 item. ~ Lori

Do not even really consider what the “retail” price is– because most people who shop retail do not pay retail price anyways, they get it on sale-B1G1-have a coupon, etc… discounts which we cannot offer at the consignment sales…. so retail is really not something to compare it to since few people pay the true retail price listed on something. ~ Jill

FOR BIG ITEMS, CHECK THE COMPETITION

I see what things are selling for online (craigslist or ebay, etc.) then ask for a price lower than that to make sure it sells! I want to clean out my house and make some money.. not bring stuff back in! ~ Emily

GO LOWER

Take the first number that comes to mind when you look at the item, than take at least $.50 off. $1 for items over $10.  ~ Henriette

SELL IN SETS

Something that helps with pricing is that if you can make sets – top and bottom and sell it for cheap, you just got rid of 2 items and the buyer just scored an outfit for cheap! Everyone wins!!!! ~ Veronia
